A TRIBUTE TO THE RAMONES

Inspired by theory: what if a punk rock band like The Ramones would have met at another part of the globe, but at a similar decade? What if they wouldn’t have formed in NYC but Kingston, and how would they had expressed their anti-stance while being inspired by Toots & The Maytals and King Tubby instead of MC5 and the Stooges? A probably bizarre theory – even though they all share a common origin that just took different paths at different parts of the globe: Rock’n’Roll.

But bizarre theories and creating a musically vision are nothing new to the DUBMONES: emerged from the entourage of 2008’s dubXanne (The Police In Dub), this latest project does give an insight how it might have sounded if The Ramones would have created their songs in a different way, by still keeping its original attitude and band’s message.

The work for “DUBMONES – A Tribute To The Ramones“ (Echo Beach) is in full process, containing all their most significant tunes – but in a sheep’s clothing. While works on classics like f.e. „Blitzkrieg Bop“, „Sheena Is A Punkrocker“, „I Wanna Be Sedated” or „Rock’n’Roll Highschool“ continue to finally create a full length album. Ideas of how it could have sounded if Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee and Tommy would have met in their rehearsal room jamming “a kind of Rocksteady“ instead. The same way as they used to play “a kind of Rock’n’Roll“ when the so-called inventors of Punk Rock once started in Queens, NYC the early 70s – not knowing they invented the term “Punk Rock”, enriched the diversity of today’s global music scene and shaped an ongoing movement.

The longplayer (due to be released in Spring 2025) will feature inspired interpretations from a mix of great Jamaican veterans and contemporary reggae crooners, such as Dennis Alcapone, Keith & Tex, Prince Alla, Susan Cadogan, U Brown, Earl 16, Oku Onuora, Ranking Joe, Alpheus, Horseman, Jr Thomas, Welton Irie, Shniece, Sebastian Sturm and Ranking Ann.
